Cold flow simulations

CFD has the power to envisage the most simple problems to the most complex problems. Cold flow simulations are some of the most common and simplest of all engineering flow problems which is observed in our day to day professional life.

Problems such as understanding the lift generation and effects of angle of attack for aircrafts, or understanding the exterior design effect on fuel consumption and comfort for automobiles are some of such simple problems, which can double your profit in long run.

Cold flow simulations may include cases such as cooling airflow in automobiles, external flow in moving objects such as ships or containers, internal flow such as those in transmission pipelines or hydraulics, cavitation or capillary effects in rotating equipment, or even the much more complicated flow behavior in an Internal combustion engine.

Cold flow simulations are used when the engineer require only the velocity variation or pressure variation across/inside a body. The effect of energy is general neglected and only mass transfer is considered to be playing a vital role.

Simulations such as evaporation-condensation, bubble dynamics, solidification-melting, eulerian film etc has also recently gained importance as load cases. Coupled flow problems including those with moving meshes and mesh dynamics has also seen gaining popularity.

Some of the recent advents include simulations in super hydrophobic objects, nano and micro scale objects. Though the usual approach of continuum approach do face some difficulties in simulating the same, with the advent of technologies such as MD and LBM, flow simulations in nano and micro levels also has been possible with good accuracy.

Engineers at D2A are equipped and experience to do various kind of cold flow simulations. If you have a query on your cold flow simulation, please feel free to contact us and our engineers will be happy to help you with your problem.
