Combustion and Species Transport

For decades, species transport and combustion analysis has been a nightmare for engineer and researchers since it is difficult and close to impossible as to understand what is really going on in the back side of the process. It has always been challenging for researchers and engineers to find the perfect combination of conditions to achieve the desired reaction whether it is volumetric or surface.

CFD has given a breakthrough to the uncertainties of combustion. With cutting edge codes, it is now easy to predict what really goes on during a reaction or species transport. With the availability of reaction database files, property files and mechanism files for most of the known stable and unstable elements and compounds, the research into combustion has touched a peak.

The files available from various research groups can be combined and utilized in order to predict the reactions occurring at any stage. It is even possible to predict the intermediate compounds and radicals formed in the reaction.

With the visualization technology of CFD and power to change the required conditions, engineers can now observe, study and compare the variations of different parameters and its effects on different reaction mechanisms.

CFD can be handy in studying open flow combustion, closed flow combustion, compressed ignition combustion (CI) or spark ignition combustion (SI), volume flow reactions, surface reactions, generation sand behavior of different types of flamelets, effects of turbulence on mixing, generation of pollutants, flame propagation, effect of spark or injection timing etc.

Engineers at D2A are equipped and experience to do various kind of species transport problems.  If you have a query on your problem or our service, please feel free to contact us and our engineers will be happy to help you with your problem.
